Single Equality Scheme

Introduction to our Single Equality Scheme

H&F Homes is a not-for-profit arm’s length management company responsible for the management of Hammersmith and Fulham Council’s housing stock. We have a role as a service provider, employer and purchaser of goods and services to work towards eliminating unlawful discrimination and ‘Institutional Racism’, as well as promoting equality of opportunity. Together with the council, we believe that all our residents, users of our services and employees should enjoy equal opportunities to work for and live a better life for themselves and their families.

H&F Homes has legal requirements to promote equality and diversity in the areas of disability, age, religion, race, gender and sexual orientation. Our first three-year Single Equality Scheme sets out how we will meet those requirements under disability, gender and race with the additional equality categories sexual orientation, religion and Age being incorporated in the coming year.

The three year plan describes how the ALMO will fulfil its social and legal obligations, putting equality at the heart of everything we do including day to day services we provide to our diverse range of customers.  Covering the period April 2009 – March 2012 the scheme is closely linked to our three- year corporate Equality and Diversity Strategy and action planning process. In developing the scheme we proactively engaged with stakeholders through various meetings and focus groups.

Our approach to developing this scheme has been based on the services we provide and our customers, rather than how we are structured as an organisation. We asked tenants, leaseholders, voluntary and community groups and the Borough Disability Forum to think about what they wanted us to achieve
(outcomes), what they thought we needed to do to male it happen (actions) and how they could assist in delivering the actions (partnership)

The Single Equality Scheme will be reviewed in three years; however the action planning process will be monitored on a quarterly basis and reported to the appropriate committees. Please feel free to feed any comments you may have that will improve the services we deliver and improve the scheme over the coming years.
