WE CAN HELP

In an emergency if you your children or family members are at risk, you can get help from the police immediatelyby calling 999. Domestic violence is a crime and the police take it very seriously. They have specially trained police officers who deal exclusively with supporting survivors of domestic violence and hate crime.

We know domestic violence takes many forms. It can be sexual, physical, emotional, cultural, financial or religious abuse and there are many ways someone can be abused. One in four women will experience DV in their lifetime.

WE CAN SUPPORT YOU TO GET HELP

There are many agencies that can offer you support and advice. You may want to know about how the law can protect you, measures to keep you safe in your home or if the Council will help you to find another home, childcare arrangements, financial and practical support.

WE WILL DEAL WITH YOUR SITUATION CONFIDENTIALLY

(except where we have a statutory duty to share information for example in child protection matters)

Victim Support

Victim Support is the independent national charity which helps people cope if they have been affected by any form of crime such as

  • Domestic violence
  • Robbery
  • Rape or sexual assault
  • Murder
  • Assault
  • Hate crimes
  • Crimes against children

Their services are free and available for everyone. They are an independent organization you support when it is needed. Their trained volunteers  offer

  • someone to talk to in confidence
  • information on attending court and dealing with the police
  • information about compensation, insurance, witness support, legal housing and benefit issues

They offer a telephone interpretation service which available for people who do not speak English as a first language.and can also give you informaiton by email or letter.
